Community College of Vermont Wins $2.5 Million Job Training Grant

MONTPELIER, VT (09/26/2011)(readMedia)-- The Community College of Vermont (CCV) has been awarded a $2.5 million job-training grant from the U.S. Department of Labor.

The Community College Career Training Grant (C3T) will help CCV respond to the needs of Vermont businesses by developing three new degree programs to prepare students for careers in fields Vermont employers have identified as being high growth: health sciences, business, and information technology.

"While writing the grant application CCV talked with numerous Vermont employers about the skills they need to build and support their workforce. These funds will allow CCV to respond to demand for the evolving requirements of careers in the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) fields, including developing highly sophisticated labs in many corners of the state," said CCV President Joyce Judy. "We are pleased to partner in this grant with the Vermont Department of Labor, Vermont Tech, and the Vermont Student Assistance Corporation."

Created to offer opportunities to trade-impacted Vermont workers, the new associate degree programs will be offered in formats designed to allow students to complete their studies in a shorter amount of time.

This grant was supported by Vermont's entire congressional delegation including Senators Patrick Leahy and Bernie Sanders, and Representative Peter Welch.
